GREAT BOOKThis book was given to me when I was only 4 years old...two decades later, I still think this is one of the greatest children's books created.

Catherine Marshall: The Inspirational Writings
Published in Hardcover by Budget Book Service (March, 1995)
Average review score:

What an inspiration!!This book is a great collection of two of her great works. Every chapter is enlighting and truely inspirational. I had forgotten how much I enjoy her writings until I picked this book up. She takes a very analytical approach to Christian concepts and peppers it with true stories of her own and of her friends and acquaintances in Something More. In A Closer Walk, it is just a continuation of her great insights that she learned in her daily life. I enjoy reading this very much and it has helped me in so many areas of my Christian life.

Another great Larry and Stretch yarn! It's years since I've read a Larry & Stretch book. I'm glad I picked this one up as I'd forgotten how great they were! The Texas troubleshooters come to the rescue of a sheriff's daughter and turn the tables on the owlhoots. Recommended for all Western fans!

Chess for Children, Step by Step: A New, Easy Way to Learn the Game
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown and Company (September, 1977)
Average review score:

Firstrate Chess Book for ChildrenThis is by far the best book I've seen to teach children chess. Like most children's books, it covers the moves of the pieces with algebraic notation.
However, the guts of the book is giving a child systematic experience with the pieces. It starts with the "Pawns Game." Only the pawns are set on the board and each player plays with the goal of getting one pawn through to the last rank. This is anything but a dumb experience. Games like Knights & pawn game follow until the child is using the whole board.

Chez Nous: Home Cooking from the South of France
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (April, 1995)
Average review score:

Brilliant!I got this book some time ago. If you ever thought French cooking was tedious, this book defies that idea. The recipes that Ive tried not only make a massive amount of food, but everything come out perfectly if you follow the steps. I swear by their pastry crust recipe-it's foolproof and the basis for all the quiches that I do when not using the book. The vegetable recipes are also a winner as well-and a winner with family and friends! One of the best-and most user-friendly French cookbooks around.

Chinese American Family Therapy: A New Model for Clinicians
Published in Hardcover by Jossey-Bass (June, 1998)
Average review score:

Jung's model reflects his own personal and cultural journey.Jung's Chinese American Family Therapy (CAFT) model draws on the best of family therapy, while maintaining strong ties to the Chinese cultural. Jung blends a mixture of Structural and Strategic family therapies with a focus upon the interpersonal and intrapersonal that allows for complete healing.
Jung's mixture of the more technique oriented versions of therapy with a more depth and emotion focused theory matches the Chinese cultural. Contextual therapy allows the values of loyalty and exoneration to become a meaningfulk part of the therapeutic process. The technique oriented aspect of CAFT allows the more traditional Chinese client to receive something immediately to fix the problem. The immediate fix allows the therapist to establish credibility and a safe environment for therapy to procede.

Choices in Relationships
Published in Hardcover by West Wadsworth (January, 1999)
Average review score:

Author vs. BookPersonally, I feel that if you're going to write a book about how to make relationships last, manners should come into account as well. Although the book was clean and a fast read, I thought David Knox was very impolite. I e-mailed him to tell him how much I enjoyed the book and asked a couple questions. He e-mailed me back with answers, asked what class I was in, but never said "Thank you". If that isn't irony, what is? I will never read another book by this author again just because of that--impressions count for a lot and his didn't settle with me at all. If it's for a class, I'll fight it.

Christy Series #10: Stage Fright
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (12 March, 1997)
Average review score:

Wonderful book, true to the spirit of the originalC. Archer's Christy series for children stays true to the times and theme of Christy, by Catherine Marshall. In this book, Christy, Doctor MacNeill and Aunt Cora travel to Knoxville, where Christy stars as Juliet in a play. It is an exciting story. C.Archer adds interesting characters and plots. The entire C. Archer series is highly recommended by me, a librarian working with children for more than twenty years, and a Christy fan.
